Clive Thomson expected to take over as Woolworths board chair

Clive Thomson is expected to become the chairperson of the Woolworths board, following the company's AGM on 25 November 2025. He will also then become a member of the Woolworths sustainability committee.

The announcement noted that from the conclusion of the AGM, Clive additionally becomes chairperson of the nominations committee, interim chairperson of the remuneration and talent management committee and will step down as chairperson of the audit and treasury committees.

Clive, who joined the WHL board in 2019, will succeed Hubert Brody as chairperson of the board in line with the company’s succession plan.

Clive has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership and executive roles. He served as CEO of Barloworld Limited for a decade, and as CFO for close to four years. Prior to his group CEO role, Clive was CEO of Barloworld Equipment, with responsibility for leading the Caterpillar equipment businesses in Southern Africa, Russia, and Iberia, and was finance director of Barloworld Coatings for five years.

He is also a non-executive director at Vodacom Group and ADvTECH.
